Event Details

With the sudden growth of social media many small business owners are finding they need to get their heads around a new marketing tactic but don't know where to start.

This series is all about empowering small business owners with the skills and understanding of what is social media and how it can be used to grow their businesses.

This three part series kicks off with Jye Smith, the Digital Strategist for Weber Shandwick, where he's responsible for leading all digital capabilities and inspiring innovative and creative solutions for clients.

His blog,  A Digital Perspective, is currently ranked number 23 in Australia, and Jye currently holds position 5 for Top 27 Bloggers Under 27.

We're delighted to have Jye sharing his knowledge and skills with this Introduction to Social Media presentation. So expect to learn what:

  • is "social media"?
  • are the numbers in involved in social media (how big is it?)
  • are the benefits for small business in getting involved in social media
  • where does social media fit in the sales cycle
  • how can it be brought together to work for small business.

What you get for your ticket:

  • practical and useful introduction to social media from an inspiring marketing expert
  • delicious wine and nibbles
  • a fab Goodies Bag full of surprises!
  • 101 Social Media Tips from She Inspires
  • opportunity to learn and be inspired in a creative environment tucked inside a newly restored heritage building
  • chance to talk with and shop with talented creative small business owners participating in the Pop Up Project
  • time to network with other small business owners

Who should come along to this event? Small business owners who are interested in:

  • getting an understanding of what makes up social media
  • what's all the fuss about the numbers behind social media
  • making your business grow irrespective of the economic environment
  • having an effective way to market your business with very little expense - so the opposite to print advertising
  • putting their businesses ahead of competitors and their noise
  • creating lasting customer relationships that bring repeat sales
  • seeing change is the only constant and learning is fun

You don't have to have a fully-fledged e-commerce website to take advantage of the social media marketing opportunities. What you do need is a grasp on what's happening and how to make it work for you.

Series Details

This is a 3 part series being hosted by Creatively Belle and generously sponsored by the Gift and Homewares Australia (GHA).  The series is in line with the GHA's goal to support their members and the industry  with practical programs and educational seminars.

The first in the series is an introduction to social media so business owners can get a grasp on what's involved, the different platforms, the numbers involved, how it fits into the sales cycle and how to bring it together.

Jye Smith, the Digital Strategist for Weber Shandwick and blogger of,  A Digital Perspective, is the presenter and it's being held on Thursday 18th August.

The second event in the series is a real life example of how a small business owner finding her business being guttered by the GFC turned to social media and not only saved her business, but made it a flourishing success through some of the toughest times in the financial heart of Sydney.

I'm sure you'll find Angela Vithoulkas of the VIVO Cafe  inspiring, amusing, direct and informative as she shares her story of learning, growth and success. Angela is presenting on Friday 16th September.

Our third presentation event is all about how to make social media marketing part of a very affordable marketing plan and is being held on Thursday 20th October.

Each event is ticketed at $25 per attendee.

The Rocks Pop Up Project

I'm thrilled to be part of the Pop Up Project at The Rocks with my jewellery designs. I'm part of the business incubator venue at 47 George Street (the old Westpac building) giving small businesses like mine the opportunity to have our first shops and to learn what's involved.

We have space for working on our designs, whether they be jewellery such as mine is with Creatively Belle, or painting or silk dying or feathery accessories or sculpture, that we can also use for events.

With my passion for small business I've decided to have a series of events to help empower and inspire small business owners. These events range from this social media series to a series on the realities of business ownership and even a book launch for a small business online forum.Click here for more details about the events I'm hosting.

What others say!

I found from the book launch that other small business owners were thrilled to have the opportunity to gather in the charming environment of a heritage sandstone building and to talk with creative business owners about their experiences.

This is what Andrea Mitchell had to say about it all:

"What a great event! Having heard about the event through the flying solo forum I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I was looking forward to speaking with other solo business owners and hoping to get
some inspiration for my own projects. I didn't really know anything about the rocks pop-up project so I was in for a treat. Not only did I get to speak to other entrepreneurs but I was introduced to the amazing creative space created as a result of the project. The official part of the evening let us hear from Belinda about the creation of the space and the process she went through which provided a great balance to being able to wander at random, talking to other attendees and shop owners."
